Mens cardigans are a relatively recent addition to some men's wardrobe. Cardigans have only been revived as a fashionable men's outerwear choice in the last several years. Since having been reserved primarily for women and older men, think Mr. Rogers, the cardigan is back in popular fashion for men of all ages and tastes.
Still there are still those who are on the fence over the cardigan. Some guys might not think they're cool. Others might just be uninterested. If you're going semi-formal you can wear it over a button down shirt with a tie. This is a great clean look without overdressing.
If you do want to be formal, a cardigan is a great option instead of a vest especially if it is cold outside, and creates the same look as a vest if worn under a jacket.
